"Preferring a bed in Puxi to a house in Pudong" is an old Chinese saying that reflects the developmental contrast in the past between the two areas in Shanghai along the Huangpu River.
Now, modern high rise buildings and glittering shopping centers sprawling across Pudong could hardly make visitors imagine its past scenario 28 years ago, when Pudong started to open up.
An exhibition on the opening-up of Pudong traces historical changes. Once a backward region, it has transformed into China's economic beachhead, attracting investment, industrial giants and talents from home and abroad.
