Forty years ago there was never enough food in Xiaogang, a village considered the birthplace of China’s rural reform. Farmers had to go other villages to beg. No one could imagine the dramatic changes Xiaogang has gone through in the last 40 years. The villagers built new two-floor houses, opening small restaurants to serve their guests. The small village in eastern Anhui province has witnessed huge changes during reform and opening up.
