The tourist area consists of two major sectors, the Weishan Island and Weishan Lake National Wetland Park. The island is located to the southeast of Weishan Lake in Weishan county. The largest inland island in northern China, it covers an area of 9.6 square kilometers and is named after the tomb of Wei Zi, brother of King Zhou of Shang and the first ruler of Zhou's state, Song. The island enjoys more than 6,000 hectares of blooming lotuses every summer, which makes it the "Lotus Capital of China".

Weishan Island was a famous revolutionary base during the War of Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the cradle of various armed forces such as the Railway Guerrillas, the Weishan Lake Troop and the Canal Detachment. It is included in the 12 key Red Tourism Areas, 30 Great Red Tourism Routes and 100 Classic Red Tourism Scenic Spots in China. It also boasts many historical sites such as the Tomb of Zhang Liang (a military strategist and politician in the early Western Han Dynasty) and the Tomb of Muyi (a prince of the Song State from the Spring and Autumn Period).

Weishan Lake National Wetland Park is the largest meadow lake wetland in Asia. Initiated in 2011, the park covers an area of 10,000 hectares and has a complete ecological environment with a variety of wetland forms, and thus plays an important role in the "South-to-North Water Diversion" water quality purification project. Its titles include "Asia's First Wetland" and "National Ecological Demonstration Area" and it is among China's 10 Most Attractive Wetlands.
