China urges US to rectify wrongdoing of 'reciprocal tariffs'

China voiced its firm opposition to the United States' "reciprocal tariff" plan on Thursday, saying it will take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate interests.
In response to an executive order issued by the US on Wednesday imposing additional tariffs on imports from all trading partners, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said there is no winner in a tariff war or trade war.
"Under the pretext of 'reciprocity', the US is seriously violating the World Trade Organization rules and undermining the rules-based multilateral trade system by imposing additional tariffs on imports from China and many other countries," Guo said at a regular news conference.
"China urges the US to rectify its wrongdoing, and solve trade disagreements with all other countries, including China, through talks in a way that is equal, respectful and mutually beneficial," Guo said.
