Zhejiang province launched its second overseas air cargo hub, the Hangzhou-Vancouver exclusive overseas cargo terminal, at Vancouver International Airport on March 31 (local time).
Meanwhile, the Vancouver Mega-Hangzhou overseas station was inaugurated at Hangzhou International Airport, marking the launch of a new model of reciprocal overseas cargo hubs between the two airports.
This new facility in Vancouver is Zhejiang's first overseas cargo hub in North America, following the establishment of the Hangzhou-Budapest cargo hub in Hungary. The move accelerates the formation of Zhejiang's 1+N aviation hub network connecting Hangzhou with Europe, North America, and beyond.
Since the launch of the Hangzhou-Vancouver all-cargo flight route in May 2024, nearly 200 flights have operated, primarily serving Pinduoduo, AliExpress, and Shein. The route offers over 200 metric tons of weekly export capacity for apparel, footwear, and small commodities, with last-mile delivery networks reaching Toronto and major West Coast cities in the United States.
The new Vancouver cargo hub is expected to enhance Zhejiang's logistics capabilities, ensuring that Zhejiang-made goods reach North America's biggest markets in just 13 hours.
With the addition of Vancouver, the Hangzhou airport now operates within a three-hub network connecting major cargo routes across North America and Europe, including cities like Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Madrid, Billund, and Derby. Hangzhou has rapidly built a global cargo network, supporting its booming cross-border trade.
Zhejiang's international exports continue to soar, with cross-border e-commerce exports reaching 358.68 billion yuan ($49.12 billion) in 2024, a 10.1-percent year-on-year increase. The Hangzhou airport also set a new record in international cargo throughput, handling 232,400 tons, up 37.12 percent from the previous year.
