Two robot dogs are set to begin service at Hangzhou South Railway Station in Xiaoshan district, offering travelers a futuristic helping hand with their luggage.
Unveiled on April 3 and 4, the robot dogs impressed passengers with their ability to carry up to about 50 kilograms of luggage while steadily following their owners to the waiting area. With smooth, agile movements like walking, running, and swaying, the robotic companions quickly became a hit with curious onlookers.
"The robots will assist with both luggage transport and security patrols," said Sun Feng, head of the station's management division. The robots are part of a pilot project to test robotic applications in transport hubs.
Developed by Zhejiang Supcon Information Co, the robot dogs are being used to explore the integration of intelligent devices into real-world transport scenarios. "They've already demonstrated strong performance, though there's still room for improvement," said company representative Zhu Haojie.
Hangzhou South Railway Station has been promoting smart travel solutions. Its intelligent terminal management platform integrates digital twin technology, internet of things, big data, and cloud computing, making it one of the few comprehensive transport hubs in the province with such capabilities.
According to Sun, full deployment is expected in May, with robot dogs stationed at key areas such as exits and metro transfer points to offer smarter, more convenient services to travelers.
