Leading officials and scholars at home and abroad highlighted on Tuesday the importance of stepping up efforts by different civilizations to build a community with a shared future for mankind in order to respond to the challenges of the times such as military conflicts, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and terrorism.
A community of shared future for mankind represents a new awakening and enlightenment of humanity, experts said at a forum titled "Promoting World Cultural Diversity and Building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind", held in Bengbu, Anhui province, on Tuesday.
More than 4,000 years ago, the legendary Chinese ruler Yu the Great was said to have met with tribal leaders in today's Bengbu, Anhui province, thereby setting the foundation for a united country. Now the city has a new role: to witness communication of different cultures and exploration of a shared future for a much larger community.
