Compared to the well-known scenic attraction, Hongcun village in east China's Anhui province, the neighboring Tachuan Village seems a bit off the beaten track, situated just on the tip between Hongcun and the Bamboo Sea. However, a walk in Tachuan Village will offer you a glimpse of the joys of a simple life for local residents, as well as the enchanting natural sceneries and fascinating Hui style architecture, while avoiding crowds.

Nestled at the foot of China's sacred Daoism attraction, Huangshan Mountain, Tachuan features dozens of ancient civil dwellings built at the mountainside. Looking from afar, layers of these houses seem like a giant pagoda, hidden inside a valley and thick forestry. There is a creek flowing through the village and winding its way towards the picturesque Qishu Lake. Therefore it is named Tachuan – Ta refers to pagoda and Chuan refers to the creek in Chinese.

If you set off from Hongcun Village, Tachuan is within a two-kilometer reach. At the entrance of the village, you will be greeted by several giant ancient trees, which are the first sightseeing in Tachuan called, "Five Trees Reaching the Sky." Each of the trees has a thick trunk that only several people together could hug around.

You won't find common stone stools and chairs provided for tourists at Tachuan, since it is not tailored for developed tourism yet. But the interlaced tree roots of thousands of years of history may offer you a different rest, in the serene and refreshing pure nature.

Painters and shutterbugs often get up early in the morning to catch the most charming scene in Tachuan when trees and houses are gently veiled in a thin fog. Colorful leaves and typical Hui style architecture will bring you to a place as depicted in splendid Chinese ink painting.

How to get there:

Take the Huangshan Mountain -- Hongcun Village tourist bus, and transfer to Tachuan at Hongcun. Or you can just walk from Hongcun in only half an hour.
