2012 was the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Zhongguancun National Intellectual Property Demonstration Park. Patent applications in Zhongguancun Science Park reached 110,000 over the past 10 years, Beijing Daily reported.
From 2003 to November 2012, the annual growth rate of patent applications in the science park reached 29.9 percent, 8 percentage points higher than Beijing's overall figure during the same period, said Xu Zhengxiang, director of the Zhongguancun intellectual property promotion bureau.
Zhongguancun-based enterprises applied for 2,370 patents in 2002. That number reached 23,619 for the first 11 months of 2012, accounting for 29.3 percent of Beijing's total patent applications over the same period. The figure is representative of the rapid development of Zhongguancun-based high-technology industries.
New patents in the past 10 years included 73,302 innovation patents, 64.4 percent of the science park's total patents. Among them, 20,691 have been authorized, 37.5 percent of total authorized patents in Beijing.
Zhongguancun Science Park's patents also sought to expand overseas. Its total patent export accounted for over 40 percent of Beijing's total for three consecutive years since 2009. In addition, the Ministry of Finance currently allocates special funds to overseas patent applications from the park.
