Local operas are a prized heritage of Suzhou, earning the Classic Operas title.
Pingtan, one of more than 250 forms of Chinese opera, began to emerge in its present form in the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Zhangjiagang is widely regarded as the hometown of "Wu Songs," a kind of folk song sung in the local dialect in the Yangtze River Delta area.
Zhangjiagang, the county-level city in Suzhou, Jiangsu province is home to many historical cultural heritages. Pingtan Opera, Heyang folk song, and Heyang treasure scrolls have been listed in the national intangible cultural heritage expansion project directory.
Yangtze River, the longest river across China from west to east, is known as the Mother River of the country together with the Yellow River.
The Xiangshan Temple will hold 3-day grand Buddhist religious ceremony to celebrate the event every year.
The 2017 China (Zhangjiagang) Yangtze River Culture and Art Festival wrapped up on Nov 10 in Zhangjiagang's Poly Theatre.
A new production of the Sichuan-style opera Love Celestial Ladder kicked off the 2017 Zhangjiagang Small Theatre Performances series at the Zhangjiagang Art Theatre on Nov 5.
