Editor's Notes: The southeast coastal city Xiamen is undergoing the "urban-rural integration" that will develop the vast area on the mainland into the level of Xiamen Island. With the national policy slope to accelerate the development of the western bank of the Taiwan Strait and the upcoming Shanghai World Expo, Xiamen is faced with tremendous opportunity to develop.
Yu Weiguo, secretary of city's party committee, said Xiamen Island is now a powerful "fist" and their aim is to unfold the fist to a palm. "The flat of the palm is the sea and Xiamen Island will join the other four districts to become the five fingers," he said.

Undersea tunnel integrates Xiamen and new areas
