詳解“倒計時”

離北京2008年奧運會還有不到一年的時間了，倒計時已經開始！
那么，"北京2008年奧運會倒計時一周年已經開始”應該用英語怎么說呢？有人翻譯為“The one-year countdown for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games has begun.”，這句話“countdown”后的介詞用錯了，不是“for”而是“to”。
“countdown”后面跟“to”表示離某事發生還有多少時間。“倒計時”可表示“倒數秒數”，表示一個較短的時間，例如從10數到0，英語翻譯為“countdown”。例如： “The countdown to the launching of the satellite began.”（衛星發射倒計時開始。）
“倒計時”還可表示“未來某件事發生的時刻往現在推算還有多少時間”，是一個較長的時間，英語也可以翻譯為“countdown”。例如： “On August 8, 2007, a grand gala was held on the Tian’anmen Square celebrating the one-year countdown to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.”（2007年8月8日在天安門廣場上舉行了慶祝北京2008年奧運會倒計時一周年盛大活動。） “The countdown clock shows there are 365 days left until the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.”（倒計時鐘顯示離北京2008年奧運會開幕還有365天。） “The countdown to the completion of the project has started.”（工程已經進入倒計時階段。）
“倒計時”還可作動詞用，英語翻譯為“to count down”，即“to record the time passing until an important event happens”。例如： “We are counting down our holidays to countdown.”（我們正在倒計時看離假期還有幾天。） “I want you to count sown from twenty to zero by twos.”（我要你從20倒數到0，每次減2。）
